If someone didn't have a link and instead had their program files on the C:\ drive like most systems, it's possible it would have deleted the actual program files. If you look at this PFRO.log file, you can see that it deleted C:\Program Files (x86).
I was able to remake the link and then my software was working again. Luckily, it didn't delete the actual folder, but none of my software was working and I freaked out. It can be used for example to put your C:\Program Files on a different drive, so you can have more space, but to the system, it is still on the C:\ drive.Īnyway, after rebooting after I uninstalled IDM, it deleted the hard link to my program files.
It's built into windows using the mklink command. Essentially it is a folder shortcut that acts as if it's a real folder.
On my system I have a junction (aka symbolic link/hard link). It's probably a bug that only occurs on certain systems. I have a slightly different system configuration than most people which might be why it tried to delete my program files. Be VERY VERY careful if you try to uninstall Internet Download Manager.
